Have you ever got a strange look, when you told someone you go to an Apostolic church, or you believe in the apostolic doctrine, or you belong to Young APOSTOLIC Students for Christ!!!
Apostolic...what is that???
Well Apostolic comes from the root word Apostle, and it simply means that we believe in teachings of Jesus Christ as they were handed down to the Apostles. John 17:20 states that we should "believe on Him (Jesus Christ) through their (Apostles) word". Acts 2:42 states that "they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine".
What does Apostolic mean to you?
Apostolic, to me, represent the very truth and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ which continues to be passed on through His infallible Word!!
ReplyDeleteElder Jonnie James once did a dissertation on this. The word "Apostolic" is not in the bible, however the word "Apostle" is (in case you’re ever challenged by this one). The adjective suffix "-ic" means "of or pertaining to". Hence, the word "Apostolic" is an adjective form of the word "Apostle". "Apostle" is a Greek word meaning "one sent forth". The one who did the sending was, of course, Jesus Christ (Matt. 28:19). I am Apostolic because I follow the doctrine and creeds taught by the Apostles - those sent forth by Jesus Christ.
